Patient Recalls
Schedule follow-up recalls, track overdue patients, and manage contact attempts
Overview
Patient recalls ensure no patient falls through the cracks between visits. When a doctor determines a patient needs a follow-up (e.g., recheck blood pressure in 2 weeks, annual diabetes screening, vaccination due date), they create a recall with a scheduled date. The system tracks all recalls, highlights overdue ones, and helps staff systematically contact patients who need to return.
Creating a Patient Recall
- From a patient's record or during a visit — Click "Add Recall" in the patient's timeline or the visit summary.
- Select recall type — Choose from: follow_up, vaccination, screening, chronic_check, custom.
- Set the scheduled date — The date when the patient should return.
- Enter reason — Fill in reason_ar (required) explaining why the follow-up is needed (e.g., "مراجعة نتائج التحاليل").
- Save — The recall is created with status "pending".
Managing Recalls
- View all recalls — Navigate to Patients > Recalls to see a filterable list of all recalls.
- Filter by status — Filter: pending, contacted, scheduled, completed, cancelled.
- Contact the patient — Click "Mark Contacted" and record the contact method (phone, SMS, WhatsApp) and date.
- Schedule appointment — Once the patient agrees, click "Schedule" to create an appointment and change recall status to "scheduled".
- Complete — When the patient attends, the recall auto-completes. Or mark manually as completed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can recalls be created automatically?
Currently, recalls are created manually by doctors or staff. Future updates may support automatic recall creation based on diagnosis codes (e.g., automatic 3-month recall for diabetes patients).
Are patients notified automatically?
Not automatically. Staff must manually contact patients and update the recall status. The system provides the recall list as a workflow tool for the team.
Can I bulk-process overdue recalls?
Yes. Use the filters to show only "pending" recalls past their scheduled date, then use batch actions to mark multiple as "contacted" after making calls.
